What is your background?
I studied Politics and went on to do a Ph.D. in Finance and Banking at The Sorbonne in Paris before becoming a certified Business Appraiser. I then started working with some of the leading Corporate and Investment Banks including Citibank, Merrill Lynch, The National Bank of Kuwait.
How did you get into training?
When I turned 24, I started working at the European Business School in Paris. At the time, I was with Citibank. The Dean asked me to run some courses and that’s where I got the ‘training bug’! 31 years later, I am still on the Faculty of some the top European and US Business Schools, and I am as enthusiastic and passionate about training today as I was at 24!
What is your favourite course that you love to teach?
More than one! Project Financing and Capital Structure are my passions.
Project Finance is one of the hottest topics in Corporate Finance ....as an effective alternative to conventional direct financing, it is being used more frequently on a wide variety of projects.Teaching this course is like distilling the complexities of this important finance technique with an insightful perspective, blending the theoretical with the practical. I just love it!
Why do I enjoy teaching Capital Structure ? Because creating shareholder value is the objective of every company today. Cost of Capital is what counts when it comes to linking strategy and share price! Being able to calculate the cost of capital for any company is essential for investors to evaluate potential opportunities. I love teaching this course because it examines the whole philosophy of value creation and shareholder value. It gives me the opportunity to deliver a practical and robust framework for the application of the key to financial excellence.
What training experience are you most proud of?
Whilst I was stationed in Cambodia in 1999, working at the National Bank of Cambodia I was asked to enhance the banking skills of the staff of the Bank within an ADB (Asian Development Bank) funded program. I was most proud of this training programme as working with the teams to enhance their skills over an extended period of time I was able to see the positive results of implementing real change at the Bank.
What makes you unique?
My sense of humour and my commitment to excellence.
Why are you passionate about training?
I personally find transferring knowledge a fascinating and rewarding experience!
What else inspires / drives you / are you passionate about (when you’re not training)?
From a business point of view, my consulting activities in emerging markets and publishing articles on capital markets regulation and financial sector reform. When I’m not training there are 3 things I love - Hawaii, Puerto Vallarta and the ocean!
